Caution, draining the swamp may be hazardous to the health of your fellow democrats Madam Speaker.
Democrats are growing increasingly upset with the OCE. This is puzzling because it was a creation of their own party designed to “drain the swamp”–Speaker Nancy Pelosi ethics oversight campaign slogan.
The following are excerpts from the Watchdog comes back to bite Democrats, article written by Susan Crabtree posted on The Hill.
Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) acknowledged a growing number of concerns about the Office of Congressional Ethics’ (OCE) record and predicted a coming public clash over its activities…
“A lot of people have been raising concerns [about the OCE], and I support them,” Clyburn said. “At some point in the not-so-distant future, these concerns will have to be addressed.”…
Three years after promising to drain the swamp in Washington and winning the majority, Pelosi has seen editorial boards across the country call for one of the most prominent members of Congress to step down as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
Charley Rangel is the prominent member of Congress the article is referring to. He has paid…”made contributions to” 120 members of Congress, including three members who sit on the “independent” ethics board presently investigating Rep. Rangel for tax evasion and reporting only half of his net worth…whoops.
Those pesky tax laws were written to raise revenue from the “regular” people not from people above the law like, Timothy F. Geithner (who enforces the federal tax laws) or Rep. Charles Rangel (who chairs the Ways and Means Committee which writes the federal tax legislation).
Current or former Congressional members are policing themselves…haven’t we already determined that some current and former members of Congress are self-serving crooks?
Any hint of impropriety taints all investigations past and present and the Office of Congressional Ethics.
I think that the FBI should be the independent ethics board that looks into Congressional wrongdoing.
