The proposal would amend current law that bars American citizens from fighting for foreign armies at the price of losing their citizenship.
“I think it’s time for us to look at whether we want to amend that law to apply it to American citizens who choose to become affiliated with foreign terrorist organizations, whether they should not also be deprived automatically of their citizenship and therefore be deprived of rights that come with that citizenship when they are apprehended and charged with a terrorist act,” Lieberman, who helms the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said on Fox News.
This a very good start Sen. Lieberman but I would add a few more groups to your amendment. Citizens who engage in espionage, sabotage or terrorists acts against the U.S., at home or abroad, in the service of any foreign country or entity. If U.S. citizens hold to ideals opposed to those of the United States strongly enough they should be willing and eager to freely give up their U.S. citizenship.
We the people of The United States of America retain the right and duty to replace our government by means of revolt for the purpose of restoring governmental power back to the people but we do not have the right to overthrow our government in the name of any other government or entity.
